Episode Structure (Detailed)

Fred the Rabbits Christmas Special:
In this episode Fred comes out of his burrow and finds that there is snow everywhere and that it is christmas, and all of the fern trees have grown and have snow covering them so that it looks all Christmassy, he is woken up by some snow following into his burrow from how much snow there is which falls on him and wakes him up from the cold whilst he is snuggled up in bed. He then goes to look around the forest to see if anyone else is awake for christmas, and finds a reindeer wandering around the forest, so Fred goes up to him to ask why he is there, as there is not usually reindeer walking around the forest only common deer, and the reindeer tells him that he is called Dasha and got lost when Santa's sleigh crashed and that he needs to find Santa to help deliver all of the presents to the young boys and girls, Dasha manages to persuade Fred to help him go find Santa as Dasha does not know where to go, because he doesn't come on to the ground only flys in the sky. They go off to start looking for Santa, and have to overcome loads of forest obstacles to get to where Santa is, also they are only going the direction that Dasha thinks the sleigh fell as there are no clear signals as to where the sleigh fell. They have to go across a frozen river, and have to get through the thick snow that covers the ground, which Dasha finds very difficult as he is used to flying in the sky with nothing else other than clouds. They also have to deal with the bear and the mouse, who are trying to stop fred from helping Dasha reach Santa. They alos have to find somewhere to sleep during the night time, as they are both far from their home and natural habitat, climbing mountains, and looking for the way asking other forest animals for directions and if anything has been seen, looking for tracks. At the end they find Santa's sleigh and manage to return Dasha to Santa, and get all of the presents to the young boys and girls in time for christmas, they also return Fred to his burrow, and Dasha and Fred become best friends in their adventure.

Representation and Ethics in Cartoons

Why does the write of the article believe Rio 2 is problematic in terms of its representation?
The write of this article finds many problems with the film Rio 2 such as the two main characters are voiced by white Americans and the comedy characters are voiced by Black oriental actors, which is stereotyping the black accent (funny voices). The writer believes this to back up the Wal Disney's history for being racist.

What are PEPs and why are they an issue for racial representation?
PEPs are problem contexts, entertainment contexts and performance contexts. This is to show the racial context in voice acting for films such as Rio 2 or Madagascar etc. having White Americans as the hero and African Blacks as the comedic characters.

Why does Da Costa believe we end up with stereotypes in animation?
Da Costa suggests that the reason for the racial casting is because they do not have enough time to cast according  therefore they go by a picture and just deal with it, for example a man with a sombrero can be voiced by a mexican.

What Turbo say about social mobility?
Turbo has been said to be racist because, the main character is voiced by a White American, yet all of the people who help him are played by Blacks.
